Organising gifts

So you’re starting to receive gifts, but it’s not as easy as wrapping them up and dropping them at local care homes. It’s important to make a log of what each gift is, so you can ensure someone with diabetes doesn’t receive chocolate, or that a women’s toiletry set isn’t accidentally given to a man.

The easiest way to do this providing each item with a unique reference number and clearly labelling the gift with the number. The reference number should then appear on a separate log outlining..

  • what the present is

  • who it may be suitable (or unsuitable) for

  • who donated the gift (so you can update them

  • and a few columns to complete later such as who the gift went to (even if the care home will only allow generic description such as ‘male in his 80’s’), and what care home the recipient resides at.
